The summer movies begin with a roar! As each step of the Avengers team has their introduction into the cinemas, such as Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, Hawkeye, Nick Fury and more, we get to see the team unfold. Since we already have seen the huge success that boosted Downey Jr. to unspeakable success as Iron man, will Thor do the same for Chris Hemsworth? The answer is easy, without a doubt!
Thor, directed by Kenneth Branagh who is also an iconic Actor, takes us to another world called Asgard which protects all the worlds in the universe, including Earth. King Odin, played by Anthony Hopkins (Silence of the Lambs, Nixon), is the ruler of Asgard and protects the kingdom from evil and intruders. He has two sons, Thor played by Chris Hemsworth (Star Trek, A Perfect Getaway) and Loki played by Tom Hiddleston, who are raised to become rulers when their father passes. During the ceremony of Thor’s crown, some of their enemies the Frost Giants try to steal their weapons that they were banned from. It halted the ceremony, and Thor wanted to humble the Frost Giants to ever set foot again in Asgard.
Through his arrogance, greed and thirst for power and war, he is banished to Earth. He ends up being picked up by Jane Foster played by Natalie Portman (Black Swan, V for Vendetta) and her crew. They think Thor is dillusional crazy homeless man till other strange events take place and Thor seeks his way back from being a prodigal son.
When seeing this film, I thought Kenneth Branagh was taking a huge risk of taking on Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston, two actors with little history in the film industry. It was either going to be a major success or a bust. Branagh’s risk pays off. The chemistry between these two brothers is one of the best you can get on film. Both actors played their role so well, I can say we will see both of them on screen for many years to come.
The supporting cast in the film was even a bigger boost in the success of the film. With Clark Gregg playing Agent Coulson again (like in Iron Man 1&2) and Stellan Skarsgard (Mamma Mia, Good Will Hunting) who plays Erik Selvig, a coworker of Portman’s character and ultimately a vital role into next avengers film.
Thor was a very entertaining and witty film. There wasn’t a dull moment. You were entrapped in the other worlds and as our own. The special effects were a little over the top, but acting and the chemistry between actors really made up for that.
Thor keeps the level of expectation alive for great quality and expectation of great story telling to the ultimate build up of the Avengers. This movie is one to go see in the theatres. You don’t have to see in 3D to get the maximum of enjoyment out of it. SEE IT!
BTW, DON’T FORGET – That there is always a scene that will keep you wanting more after the credits. Don’t miss it!
