It is interesting when went we get to see a CIA thrillercomes to theatres like such films the Bourne Series, the Jack Ryan Series thatincludes Hunt for Red October and Clear and Present Danger, to evenSyriana. We are thirsty for morerealistic adventure. However once a CIA thriller comes along that completely dives, it can make it cheap and wanting tosmack my head and think it is a form of torture. Where does Hannah rank?
The movie Hanna is directed by Joe Wright who is criticallyacclaimed for his epic movie Atonement (2007) and for Pride & Prejudice (2005). The movie Hanna starts from where a girl namedHanna played by Saoirse Ronan (Atonement, Lovely Bones) at a young age in the middle of nowhere huntingdown an Elk only to be on constant training of defense and attack with herfather named Erik played by Eric Bana (Munich, Star Trek) training her to be atop assassin. Eric is a rogue CIA agentwho left the grid after being framed for his wife’s murder. He and Hannah live in the middle of the woodsof the arctic, in a continual boot camp and learning way to kill the corrupted CIAhigher up, the evil Marissa played by Cate Blanchett (Robin Hood, Curious Caseof Benjamin Button).
When Hanna feels like she is ready to face her ultimate challenge, her father warned her that there is no going back. She presses a signal which triggers theinterest of Marisa and sends a team to go get Eric. When the team gets there, they find only Hanna, and take her to a secret compound in the middle of the desert in Africa andHanna emerges as this killing machine till the plot thickens and she startsexperiencing human innocence and new human interaction with her instincts thatwas grained into her system. There are alot of twists and turns that follows and explains it all in such rhythm and sequence.
This film is so beautifully put together. It really flows so good from the beginning tothe end like it was orchestrated symphony. Cate Blanchett plays such a great villainous role that she make CruellaDe Vil from 101 Dalmatians seem like a saint.
This movie isn’t only a sudden rush, but it has times thatkeep you tense, times that make you laugh and realize the simple joys that wetake for granted. The characters Hanna meetson her journey, helps ads to the great story this movie has become.
The Chemical Brothers did a great score in this film. Since Daft Punk did Tron and was my opinionthat they were screwed out of being even nominated for best score, ChemicalBrothers brought such a great score that only added to the films quality.
We are four months into the year and this is my favorite movie this year so far. There is a waysto go but this one has hit the list. Seeit!
