The Battle of the 3 musketeer films in 2011

Tuesday, August 03, 2010

Paul WS Anderson (Death Race, Event Horizon)  has decided to direct the new 3 musketeers film for the Summit Productions.  However, the race began when Warner Brothers had also been working on issuing 3 muskeers with Doug Liman  directing (Bourne Identity, Swingers, Mr. & Mrs. Smith) and is being produced by the group(Lionel Wigram & Peter Eskelsen) who brought the smashing hit Sherlock Holmes.

Anderson's cast has already leaked out with reportedly Orlando Bloom as the Duke, Christoph Waltz famous for his roll in Tarantino's Inglorious Bastards as the Cardinal so far.  Limans list of cast member hasn't come out yet.

Both are going to be in 3D, which so far doesn't mean anything after some of the lowsy 3D movies that have just came out.  Looking at both of these line ups, I am actually excited more to see what Dough Liman can do.  I think he is one of the most underrated directors in Hollywood.  Looking at his resume, he has really brought the cinimatic vision of this decade.  In fact the more I hear of a star studded power 3 musketeers from Summit, they better watch out being more compared to the 1993 version which, well compares to Batman Forever...

Regardless what I think, the biggest battle will be who will come out first.  The winner will be known for there origionality and not as a copy cat.  So we will see. Ridiculous if you ask me.

Huh
I can't see how you can compare 93's 3 Musketeers to Batman Forever. It was a silly film--but it was fun at least and had some good line. Sure it was pure popcorn fuff but Batman Forever could even manage any of that.
I also Doubt WB will be contender with the money woes they are having--hell it they can't even get the Hobbitt (an almost sure money maker or another James Bond film started, how they heck are they going to mange this?

MGM not WB
MGM is James Bond owning, Hobbit delaying studio with the money woes, not Warner Brothers.

Just an update, Warners has postpone putting out 3 musketeers, due to the fact that they feel that it would be ridicoulous to try to compete and not make a quality movie.
