Maps may come right before My Bloody Valentine on your iTunes library, but they definitely follow right after their sound. Call it nu-gaze, call it electronic, call it what you may, what we have here is lush, symphonic, and layered bliss. If you're having trouble with the obvious MBV comparison, it's really more a page torn from the Valentine itself, and not the whole Bloody thing...
The tracks don't feed into each other, because they're quite capable of standing on their own. There's whispers, there's drones, and yes, there's lots of four on the floor drumming to go around. But if you're expecting a swirling guitar driven orchestra of melody, you're going to hear very little Loveless. Maps channels a new cloud in the dream pop heavens, often placing the beats in the forefront of the mix, you could just about almost possibly dance to this stuff. Maybe an Indie-pop dance party? You know, the slight head nod, the "i'm dancing inside". So if you like melodic drones, sweet melodies, and dreamy pop beats, this one is definitely recommended.
